Ockfen is a municipality in the Trier-Saarburg district in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the Saarburg-Kell association.
history
Ockfen was first mentioned in 975 in a document from Archbishop Dietrich I of Trier as Occava owned by the St. Martin Abbey in Trier. Later mentions were 1037 Occkenen , 1168 Ockefa , 1220 Ockeve , 1274 Ockave . In 1381 the place was called Ockfan . The abbey built an estate in Ockfen, which was mainly used to organize the wine industry.
Belonging to Saarland
On July 18, 1946 Ockfen was together with other 80 municipalities in the counties Trier and Saarburg the Saarland allocated that is no longer at the time the Allied Control shelter. However, this assignment did not last long, because on June 8, 1947, Ockfen and 60 other previously spun off municipalities came to the newly formed state of Rhineland-Palatinate in the French occupation zone in 1946 .

The Catholic parish church of St. Valentin was built as a neo-Gothic stepped hall on a steep slope towards the south from 1904–1906 according to plans by the Trier architect Ernst Brand . The exterior presents itself as a plastered building with decorative sandstone and slate stone elements. The moving roof landscape is covered with slate. After severe damage in 1945, the church was restored.
Municipal council
The local council in Ockfen consists of twelve council members, who were elected by a majority vote in the local elections on May 26, 2019 , and the honorary local mayor as chairman.
Viticulture
Ockfen part of the wine field Saar in the Mosel region . 15 wine-growing businesses are active in the village, and the area under vines is 53 hectares. About 96% of the cultivated wine is white wine (2007).
