coat of arms
The blazon reads: "Divided by silver over blue, above a growing, red, gold-crowned and armored lion, below a golden cornelius horn ."
Foundation of the coat of arms: Until the end of the 18th century Riveris belonged to the Electorate of Trier . A Friedrich von der Brücke pledged the jurisdiction he was entitled to in the village of “Ruverisse” to Archbishop Theoderich von Trier (1212-1242). A seal of "Petrus de ponte" from 1322 shows a crowned lion. Because Riveris belongs to Kurtrier, the Kurtrier colors were used. The chapel and site patron is St. Cornelius . Its attribute, a horn, is in the lower field. The blue in the lower sign indicates the Riveris River and Reservoir .
economy
In the past, Riveris lived from agriculture , especially viticulture and fruit growing , mainly apples . That is why it was jokingly called the “Aäpelköst” (apple box). Viez (apple wine) is still a specialty today . Riveris also had a water-powered flour mill and an oil mill.
tourism
Riveris is a village that is particularly popular with hikers and guests looking for peace and quiet. The Riveristalsperre can be hiked in its entirety or explored by bike . The Riveristal is rich in natural monuments in the form of quartzite rocks , such as the "Langenstein" (district Morscheid) and the "Weißenstein". The dream loop Morscheider Grenzpfad leads past the village.
