history

Vierherrenborn is one of the youngest communities in the state of Rhineland-Palatinate. In 1954, at the end of about 20 years of clearing, amelioration and construction work, it was raised to an independent political community by a state law passed on May 6, 1954 - which came into force on October 1, 1954. Vierherrenborn is very strongly characterized by agriculture. The farms are each surrounded by their arable land and thus very widely spread. Vierherrenborn belonged to the Saarburg-Ost district in the Saarburg district until the territorial administrative reform , and since 1970 to the newly formed association community of Kell (later Kell am See) in the new district of Trier-Saarburg.

The settlement project carried out by the Bonn-based "Rheinisches Heim" settlement company in several settlement phases on the boundaries of the villages of Hentern, Irsch, Wiltingen and Zerf resulted in a total of 42 new farming sites with an average size of 17 hectares. Those acquired through purchase and so-called voluntary expropriation Around 855 hectares of wasteland and hedge landscapes - with an economically no longer justifiable land use of sack peeling and rice firewood - had to be laboriously cleared, cultivated and prepared for arable and grassland management.

Overall, there were several phases of settlement, also due to the war. The first settlements took place in 1937; after 1945 displaced persons were also settled here.

Surname

The name Vierherrenborn goes back to a well in the district where four bailiffs met after the "Wiltinger Scheffenweise" in 1618, as the border points of their areas of influence collided here.
