Thörnich is a municipality in the Trier-Saarburg district in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the Verbandsgemeinde Schweich on the Roman Wine Route .

Geographical location

Thörnich is located about ten kilometers east of Schweich in a loop of the Moselle . The local area extends on both sides of the Moselle and includes the built-up areas in the south-west and vineyards on the opposite bank of the Moselle. The place is affected by the state road 48 , which leads over a bridge to the federal road 53 .

Events

Thörnich is known nationwide for the wine farm festival on the second weekend in September, which runs from Friday evening to Monday. The wine farm festival is organized by the winemakers in their houses, who offer their wines and typical winemaker dishes there and in the courtyards.

On Friday evenings the wine farm festival begins on the village square, where the starting point for the wine tasting experience in the wineries is. Guided hikes on the steep slopes of Thörnich are offered on Saturdays and Sundays, and some wineries open on Mondays and offer a finish with them.
