Kenn is a municipality on the Moselle in the Trier-Saarburg district in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the Verbandsgemeinde Schweich on the Roman Wine Route .

Kenn is considered the gateway to the Roman Wine Route . Kenn has a junction with the 602 federal motorway , an industrial and commercial area and a large shopping center.

history

The name Kenn comes from the Latin and was earlier written cannis (Latin canna = reed, Latin cannis = reed bank). The place was first mentioned in a document in 893. The spelling Kenn was used from around 1700.

There are several finds from the Iron Age and there were several Roman finds in Kenn. A statue of a Roman spring nymph is in a well-preserved condition in the Rheinisches Landesmuseum Trier and a copy in Kenn am Römerplatz.

On today's Kenner-Ley lies the old Poststrasse, which is part of a Roman road that led from Trier to Bingen .

Under French territorial rule, Kenn was assigned to the Mairie Longuich in the canton of Schweich . The Maximiner Hofgut was auctioned in 1812. Between 1803 and 1808, Kenn was a succursal parish and was then considered a chapel congregation with a vicar until a parish was finally established.

Attractions

  • Immediately on the banks of the Moselle lies the Kenner Flur , an arable (alluvial) land of the Moselle interspersed with sand and gravel, where both have been mined since 1905. The Kenner Flur is a designated nature reserve with an old waterworks built in 1903.
  • Local history museum, a fully furnished farmhouse with over 800 exhibits about the simple life of the rural population in the 19th and 20th centuries.
