history

Bronze Age and Roman finds indicate an early settlement . Aach was first mentioned in 953 under the name Aquacuum. Although the village was near Trier, it was not part of the Electorate of Trier , but belonged to the Trier Benedictine Monastery of St. Irminen as an imperial-free rule , as can still be seen today in a baroque monastery from 1752. As a result of the freedom of the empire, many Jews settled here in the 16th century after their expulsion from Trier , which is still evidenced by a synagogue built in 1860 and a Jewish cemetery . Some Jewish people from Aach were able to emigrate in good time after the so-called seizure of power by the National Socialists, but 14 of them were deported and murdered, including the child Margot Levy, who was born in Aach in 1937.

In 1794 the Left Bank of the Rhine was taken by French revolutionary troops. From 1798 to 1814 the place belonged to the French canton Pfalzel in the Saardepartement and was the main place of a Mairie . After the resolutions of the Congress of Vienna in 1815, the Saar department was almost completely assigned to the Kingdom of Prussia . Under Prussian administration, Aach became the seat of a mayor's office in 1816 , to which the municipalities Beßlich , Lorich , Newel and Olk also belonged, and was assigned to the then newly created district of Trier in the administrative district of the same name . These belonged to the Prussian Rhine Province from 1822 to 1945 . After the Second World War, Aach came to the then newly formed state of Rhineland-Palatinate in 1946 .
