Kell am See on Hunsrückhöhenstrasse is a municipality in the Trier-Saarburg district in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the Saarburg-Kell association, which has another administrative seat there. Kell am See is a state-approved climatic health resort and designated as a basic center according to state planning .
geography
Kell am See is located in the southwestern part of the Hunsrück between the Black Forest and the Osburger Hochwald in the Keller Mulde , on the upper Ruwer and on the Keller reservoir .
Kell am See refers to the table sheet No. 6306 (formerly No. 3494) of the topographic map on a scale of 1: 25,000.

history
The place was first mentioned in the Grimo testament in 634 and appears in the Liber annalium iurium around 1220 . In the Electorate of Trier it belonged to the Grimburg office and was the central place of care for Kell . In French times there was the Mairie Kell and under Prussian rule the mayor's office Kell and the later office of Kell, from which in 1968 the collective municipality of Kell emerged.
Since March 24, 1992, the municipality has had the part of its name “am See”.

The population is predominantly Roman Catholic . The Catholic parish church bears the patronage of St. Bartholomew . The cellar nativity scene in the church is well known outside the region .

Municipal council
The local council in Kell am See consists of 16 council members, who were elected in a personalized proportional representation in the local elections on May 26, 2019 , and the honorary local mayor as chairman. A majority vote had taken place in the 2009 municipal council election .

Events
- Until 2013 the festival “Highway to Kell” took place every spring.
- The glider site is open on weekends. The air sports club then offers local sightseeing flights over the high forest.
- On the last weekend in August, the traditional St. Bartholomew's fair takes place, with a large Krammarkt and a joint animal show.

The Hochwald industrial park is located on the Hunsrückhöhenstrasse .

- KOMAGE Gellner Maschinenfabrik KG has been based in Kell am See since 1938 and is the municipality's largest employer. It manufactures powder press systems and automation systems.

Infrastructure
The Hochwaldbahn ( Trier - Türkismühle ), which opened in 1889, had a station in Kell. Today the Ruwer-Hochwald-Radweg runs along the former route . Since then, the building has been converted into a cultural center.
In the east, Kell is affected by the Hunsrückhöhenstrasse .
tourism
In 1969 planning began for the construction of the Keller reservoir with 14 hectares of water for boating and fishing with a landscaped environment at the confluence of the Kreidbach, Fronbach and Lehbach rivers. The background to this was the stimulation of tourism, promoted by the "Hochwald Recreation Area" association founded in 1967. The lake forms the tourist center of the place. In 1979, Kell am See became a state-approved climatic health resort . One stage of the Saar-Hunsrück-Steig ends in Kell am See. There is also a Landal GreenPark and the Koala climbing forest on the lake .
education
In Kell am See there is a kindergarten as well as the secondary school plus Kell am See. The district has also been running the Kell am See youth training workshop in the former district youth center since 1989. The house is available to schools, clubs, associations and municipalities for their educational and leisure work and is regularly used by institutions beyond the region.
