Johann Lang (born December 23, 1888 in Kell , Trier district; † May 9, 1961 in Bonn ) was a German lawyer and a leading representative of the cooperative system.

Career

Lang studied law in Berlin. After completing his doctorate, he established himself as a lawyer. He was a member of the legal profession (board of directors) of the German Cooperative Association (DGV) in Berlin (since 1952: Bonn). Between 1932 and 1961, Lang determined the fate of the commercial cooperative system in Germany as an attorney for the DGV. The position of attorney was combined with the function of president from 1932 to 1936 and 1940 to 1961. From 1954 to 1956 he was a member of the board of the Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau (KfW).

Numerous comments on the German cooperative system come from him. In 1952 he was awarded the Great Federal Cross of Merit. The painter Carl Obenland created a representative portrait painting that shows Lang in the 1950s. It is in the collection of the GIZ-Genossenschaftshistorisches Informationszentrum Foundation in Berlin.
