Carl Obenland

Carl Obenland (born January 21, 1908 in Schwäbisch Hall , † March 24, 2008 in Murrhardt ) was a German landscape and portrait painter .

Life

Obenland studied painting from 1925 to 1932 at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich under Franz von Stuck and Angerer. For study purposes, he traveled to Florence and London in the 1930s to copy old masters . Between 1938 and 1940 he was at the Art Academy in Berlin and studied at the School of Applied Arts in Charlottenburg . He ran a small studio in Steglitz and received his first portrait commissions. Between 1930 and 1932 he was at the Stuttgart Art Academy with Hans Spiegel. From 1940 to 1947 he did military service and was taken prisoner in France and the USA . Obenland last lived in Lutzensägmühle ( Murrhardt ).
