The Kell am See station is a former station of the Ruwertalbahn in the municipality of Kell am See ( Verbandsgemeinde Saarburg-Kell ) in the district of Trier-Saarburg in Rhineland-Palatinate , Germany .

history

The station was built in 1891 with the construction of the Ruwertalbahn Hermeskeil - Trier after a 40-year approval and construction phase. Passenger traffic on the section of line in contact with Kell am See was discontinued in 1981, freight traffic in 1991. The final closure took place in 1998.

Station building and station facility

The building consists of a two-storey reception building with an apartment and a one-storey extension, both with a gable roof . Both parts of the building are made of red sandstone blocks and are accentuated at the corners by roughly hewn blocks. The semicircular blind arches in the gable fields, which stand out from the plaster fields, are an outstanding element, but the plaster ornamentation is only preserved here in remnants. The former roof overhang on all sides has only been retained on the eaves side since a renovation. A heavily renewed timber-framed goods shed adjoins the northern gable end .

It is one of the early high-rise structures of a similar type for the important railway stations on the line. The building was of particular economic importance for Kell and was the starting point for a settlement that had grown together with the old village outskirts.

The building has been a listed building since 1985 and was acquired by the local history and culture association Kell am See and converted into a culture and history workshop in several construction phases. There are also exhibitions in the train station. The registry office in Kell am See offers weddings here.
