Fisch is a municipality in the Trier-Saarburg district in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the Saarburg-Kell association.
Geographical location
The place is in the Saargau between the Saar and the Upper Moselle, not far from the border with Luxembourg in the west. Surrounding communities are Mannebach , Saarburg , Merzkirchen and Wincheringen . The closest major city is Trier , about 18 km to the northeast. Fish is located in the immediate vicinity of the historic pilgrimage route Cologne - Prüm -Trier- Metz (France) and today's route Trier- Perl .
To the west of Fisch ran the Roman road Metz – Trier , today partly as district road 111.
The residential areas of the settlement Alleestraße, Alterhof, Maklich and Im Viezgarten also belong to the community.
history
The place name fish comes from the Latin aedificium (farmstead) and indicates an earlier Roman estate. The place was first mentioned in a document around 1150 as the vischus .
During the Thirty Years War , the manors of the Lords of Warsberg located here were destroyed. Until the conquest by French troops in 1794, Fisch belonged to the Luxembourg rule of Wincheringen .
On July 18, 1946, the community of Fisch, together with 80 other communities in the districts of Trier and Saarburg , was incorporated into the Saar area , which was separated from the rest of the French occupation zone in February 1946 and which was no longer under the Allied Control Council at the time . On June 6, 1947, this territorial separation was withdrawn to 21 municipalities, so that the place came to the 1946 newly formed state of Rhineland-Palatinate .

Attractions
The Grade II listed , the Way of St. James Trier - Santiago de Compostela lying church of St. James with its Romanesque tower of the 12th century nave of the 18th century is the last remnant of the defunct village Rehlingen-Litt village ( ⊙ ).
