history

Reinsfeld was first mentioned in a document from Archbishop Egbert of Trier from 981 under the name "Reinoniscampo". The name "Reinoniscampus" is interpreted as "the field of Reno or Raino". The place was probably created around the year 800. In various documents from the 12th and 13th centuries, the spelling of the place name is "Reynsvelt" (1190), "Reinisvelt" (1252) and "Reinesvelt" (1252). Other documented names are: "Reinsuelt" and "renesuelt" (1215), "Reynsvelt" (1298), "Reinfelt" (1330), "Reyntzfelt" (1463), "reinsfeldt" and "Rheinsfeld" (1546), " Rainsfelt "(1570)," Reinßfeldt "(1625)," Rheinsfeldt "(1668 and 1689)," Reinsfelt "(1702)," rheinsfelt "(1724)," Reinsfeldt "(1739) and the current name 1755. The above Certificate is also called "Egbert forgery". It is a copy or reconstruction from 1215, which is sealed with the seal of Archbishop Theodoric of Trier. The original of the forgery no longer exists. The original document probably fell victim to a fire during the destruction of Trier by the Normans in 882, together with the Trier literature.

Until the end of the 18th century, Reinsfeld belonged to the Electorate of Trier and was assigned to the Grimburg office. Within the office, Reinsfeld was the seat of an administrative and judicial district called care , which also had the function of a high court . The Zenten Bescheid , Beuren , Geisfeld , Gusenburg , Hermeskeil , Malborn , Nonnweiler , Pölert , Rascheid , Reinsfeld and Wadrill belonged to the care Reinsfeld .

After the occupation of the left bank of the Rhine by French revolutionary troops (1794), Reinsfeld belonged to the canton Hermeskeil in the Saar department from 1798 to 1814 . Due to the agreements made at the Congress of Vienna (1815), the region came under the Kingdom of Prussia . Under the Prussian administration, Reinsfeld was assigned to the Hermeskeil mayor in the Trier district in the newly established Trier administrative district , which belonged to the Rhine province from 1822 onwards.

In 1889, Reinsfeld was connected to Trier and Hermeskeil with the construction of the Hochwaldbahn . In 1897, the extension of the Hochwaldbahn with the Hermeskeil-Türkismühle line enabled a supra-regional connection. Now it was possible for men who worked in the pits and huts of the Saar region to come home every week. This was also the prerequisite for the wood processing industry: In 1896 Alexander von Hammerstein founded a branch. The wood from the Osburger Hochwald was only suitable for railway sleepers, so that production was gradually switched to sleepers from 1911 onwards. The construction of the Hochwaldbahn brought the economic and social upswing to Reinsfeld. On January 13, 1930, the bang of an explosion tore the peace and quiet of the place: A Reichsbahn locomotive exploded right at the house of the station attendant, whose wife was seriously injured. It was on the doorstep at the time. The injuries resulted from a toppling mast and scalds. The trainman's house was badly damaged and other houses were slightly damaged by the steam boiler explosion.
