The Riveristalsperre is located near Riveris and Osburg on the edge of the Osburger Hochwald and the Ruwertal in the Trier-Saarburg district in Rhineland-Palatinate . It dams the Riveris and the Thielenbach . The Osburger Mühle was located there until the dam was built . A circular path with a length of about 7.9 kilometers leads around the dam.

Work on the Riverist dam began on October 13, 1954 . In the valley of the Riveris , the almost 50 meter high earth dam was built with bitumen sealing (asphalt concrete outer sealing ). It closes the reservoir , which with an annual inflow of around 11 million m³ of water has a volume of around 5 million m³. This dam is mainly used to supply the city of Trier with drinking water .
There are pre- dams at the two roots of the dam , the structures of which are 9 m high earth dams.
Most of the reservoir is located in the municipality of Osburg , the lower area with the dam is in the municipality of Riveris and a narrow border at the southern tip in the municipality of Bonerath .
