Theodoric I. (Trier)

Theodorich I. von Trier (also Dietrich, * unknown; †  June 5, 977 in Mainz according to other sources: † June 12, 977 ) was Archbishop of Trier . He held this office from 965 until his death in 977.

Life

Nothing is known about its origin. Originally dean of Trier cathedral, he was first documented in 961 in a document from Otto I as provost of Mainz . He used the goods transferred to him by Otto I. in Nahegau to equip the St. Gangolf Abbey in Mainz, which he founded. He was made Archbishop of Trier in 965. Otto moved the monastery of St. Marien in Oeren, which he acquired in 966 in exchange for the Maastricht St. Servatius Abbey . II 973 again. He distinguished himself as a promoter and innovator of monasteries, in particular the monasteries St. Marien and St. Maximin in Trier. He was buried in the collegiate monastery St. Gangolf in Mainz.
