Heinrich I. (Trier)
Heinrich I († July 3, 964 in Rome ) was Archbishop of Trier from 956 until his death .
He was the brother of Bishop Poppo I of Würzburg († 961 ) and probably the son of Count Heinrich from the Frankish Babenberg family ; another brother was probably Berthold von Schweinfurt , the powerful count in eastern Franconia .
Heinrich was trained - together with Wolfgang , who later became Bishop of Regensburg - in Reichenau Monastery ; Wolfgang and he later went to Stephan von Novara at the new cathedral school in Würzburg , where his brother Poppo had been bishop since 941. King Otto I appointed him, who Flodoard referred to as the emperor's propinquus , in 956 as Archbishop of Trier.
On May 26, 961, he was the third archbishop, alongside Brun of Cologne and Wilhelm of Mainz , to anoint Otto II as king in Aachen . He also took part in Otto's subsequent Italian campaign and was thus present in Rome when Otto met Popes John XII. and Benedict V deposed. Heinrich died in Rome of an epidemic that broke out in the emperor's army. He was buried in Parma and later reburied in Trier Cathedral .
