Primstal cycle path

The Primstal-Radweg (also known as Primstal-Radweg Dr. Hanspeter Georg) is a partially realized cycle path along the Prims in Saarland and to a lesser extent also in Rhineland-Palatinate , Germany.

The Primstal-Radweg should lead over a length of about 68 kilometers via Nonnweiler , Kastel , Primstal , Lockweiler - Limbach , Schmelz , Primsweiler - Körprich and Nalbach to the Saar-Radweg near Dillingen an der Saar .

First construction phase

The first construction phase from Hermeskeil to Bierfeld (municipality of Nonnweiler ), which was completed in 2009 and 2010, has a length of around eight kilometers and is known as Dr. Hanspeter Georgi Radweg . It connects the Ruwer-Hochwald cycle path with the Saarland cycle path network and in the Löstertal runs largely parallel to the disused Hochwald railway line (Hermeskeil - Bierfeld - Türkismühle ). The cycle path mainly runs through the forest on former forest roads that have been provided with a water-bound gravel cover.

The Rhineland-Palatinate part of the cycle path is around 4.5 kilometers long and extends to a wooden bridge over the Felsbach, a left tributary of the Löster. In the further course the cycle path crosses under the Lösterbachtalbrücke of the federal highway 1 . The expanded part of the route ends at the former Nonnweiler-Bierfeld train station. In Nonnweiler there is a connection to the Saarland cycle path .

The altitude of the first construction phase at Hermeskeil station is around 475 meters above sea level. and at Bierfeld train station (49.61 ° N; 6.75 ° E) Coordinates: 49 ° 36 ′ 39.9 ″  N , 6 ° 57 ′ 18.5 ″  E about 410 meters above sea level.

Further construction phases

The second construction phase between Nonnweiler and Gomms Mühle near Kastel was opened in November 2012. After a year of construction, the third section between Kastel and Primstal was opened in 2017. The fourth construction phase began in May 2018.

Further planning

Further sections - partly on former railway lines - are being planned.
