Hannes Haas

Hannes Haas (born July 21, 1957 in Leonding ; † March 20, 2014 in Vienna ) was an Austrian media and communication scientist .

Life

Hannes Haas studied journalism and communication studies , German and theater studies in Vienna . During his studies he also worked as a freelancer for ORF and also wrote articles in various daily newspapers after his studies . His doctorate took place in 1983.

In 1997 he completed his habilitation and became an associate professor . In 2001 he became visiting professor at the University of Zurich . From 2000 to 2006 he was deputy head of the Institute for Journalism and Communication Studies at the University of Vienna , and from 2007 to 2010 he headed the institute as the successor to university professor Wolfgang R. Langenbucher . In 2010 he received the professorship for journalism research at the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Vienna. In 2013 he was working on a study on the reorganization of Austrian press funding .

Hannes Haas died in March 2014 after a brief, serious illness. He was buried at the Neustift cemetery . To commemorate the media scientist , the Hannes Haas Young Talent Award was announced for the first time in 2014 as part of the Media Research Prize of the Association of Austrian Newspapers , which honors outstanding diploma theses and doctoral theses, and is endowed with 2000 euros.
