history

Today's Primstal originally consisted of the two villages Mettnich and Mühlfeld, whose existence has been proven up to the 13th century. Until 1794 these belonged to the Dagstuhl rule . In 1794 the area was occupied by French troops. From 1798 to 1814, the two places belonged to the canton of Wadern in the French arrondissement of Birkenfeld in the Saardepartement .

Since the Congress of Vienna in 1815, the places belonged to the Prussian province of the Grand Duchy of Lower Rhine , and from 1822 until after the Second World War to the Prussian Rhine province . Mettnich and Mühlfeld were in Trier , District of Trier , mayor Nonnweiler. After the First World War , the Versailles Treaty created the Saar area, which did not belong to Germany until 1935, from parts of the Prussian Rhine Province and the Bavarian Palatinate , but which Mettnich and Mühlfeld did not yet belong to. Rather, the customs border was only a few kilometers south of the places that remained Prussian.

The neighboring municipalities of Mettnich and Mühlfeld were merged in 1930 by a resolution of the Prussian State Ministry to form the municipality of Primstal. After the Second World War , Primstal became part of the French occupation zone in July 1945 . On July 18, 1946, the French military government under General Kœnig issued the “ Order regarding the connection of municipalities to the administration of the Saar area”. Since then Primstal has belonged to the separated Saarland . The customs border with the rest of Germany was now about 10 kilometers north of the municipality. On October 1, 1946, the community was separated from the district of Wadern and incorporated into the district of St. Wendel .

As part of the Saarland regional and administrative reform , the previously independent municipality of Primstal was assigned to the municipality of Nonnweiler on January 1, 1974, against the will of the municipal council.
