Schwarzenbach is a part of the municipality of Nonnweiler in the St. Wendel district ( Saarland ). Schwarzenbach was an independent municipality until the end of 1973.

history

The first mention Swarcenbach in 1364. After previously 500 years as part of rule Eberswald was (until 1798) Schwarzenbach from 1817 to 1937 part of the Grand Duchy of Oldenburg belonging Principality of Birkenfeld . After the Second World War it became the St. Wendel district . Due to the regional reform, Schwarzenbach became a part of the municipality of Nonnweiler on January 1, 1974.

Archaeological finds suggest that the area was settled by Celts from the 5th and 4th centuries BC. Close. Out of numerous grave mounds and shallow grave fields from the Iron Age, the two “ princely grave mounds ”, discovered by chance in 1849, stand out. Both burial mounds each contained a male burial with numerous additions of weapons, imported Etruscan and Celtic metal vessels and gold jewelry.

The burial mounds were created within sight of the Celtic fortress, the ring wall of Otzenhausen , which corresponds to a common tradition of that time. The rulers or princes were buried near their centers of power (here 2 kilometers away).

The 1984 discovery of an imported wine amphora from the 1st century BC. BC suggests that the Celtic aristocratic necropolis will survive for several centuries. At that time the fortress was abandoned as part of the Roman occupation and a new settlement was founded at the foot of the fortress in the Schwarzenbacher Flur "Spätzrech".

The Church of St. Katharina (Schwarzenbach) was built in 1876.
