Arrondissement de Birkenfeld

The Arrondissement de Birkenfeld ( Arrondissement Birkenfeld ) was an administrative subdivision in France that existed from February 17, 1800 to April 11, 1814. It was subordinate to the Département de la Sarre ( Saardépartement ), which had its seat in Trier .

In the Birkenfeld arrondissement, based in Birkenfeld (Nahe) , there were the following 9 cantons with a total of 38 Mairien (mayor's offices):

  1. Canton Baumholder , 5 Mairien: Baumholder , Börschweiler , Mittelbollenbach , Nohfelden and Reichenbach
  2. Canton Birkenfeld , 4 Mairien: Achtelsbach , Birkenfeld , Leisel , and Niederbrombach
  3. Canton Grumbach , 4 Mairien: Grumbach , Offenbach , Sien and Schmidthachenbach
  4. Canton Hermeskeil , 5 Mairien: Farschweiler , Hermeskeil , Kell , Otzenhausen and Thalfang
  5. Canton Herrstein , 4 Mairies: Herrstein , Fischbach , Hottenbach and Oberstein
  6. Canton Kusel , 5 Mairien: Burg Lichtenberg , Konken , Kusel , Quirnbach and Ulmet
  7. Canton Meisenheim , 4 Mairie: Hundebach , Meisenheim , Merxheim and Meddersheim
  8. Canton of Rhaunen , 4 Mairien: Morbach , Merscheid , Rhaunen and Wirschweiler
  9. Canton Wadern , 3 Mairien: Neunkirchen , Wadern and Weyerweiler

In 1802/1803 the arrondissement comprised 10,377 buildings, houses, mills etc. and 63,802 inhabitants in a total of 302 municipalities.

Today the area belongs to the districts of Birkenfeld , Kusel , Trier-Saarburg , Bernkastel-Wittlich and Bad Kreuznach in Rhineland-Palatinate and to the districts of St. Wendel and Merzig-Wadern in Saarland .
