Schmidthachenbach is a municipality in the Birkenfeld district in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the Herrstein-Rhaunen community .
geography
Schmidthachenbach is located in the Großbachtal, a side valley of the Nahe . Half of the district area is forested.

history
The place was first mentioned in 1572 as Hachenbach . He belonged to the office of Naumburg with the administrative seat at Naumburg Castle near Bärenbach in the Vorderen Grafschaft Sponheim and became Baden in 1766. From 1798 to 1814 the region and the place was French national territory in the Département de la Sarre . Schmidthachenbach was the seat of a mairie in the canton of Grumbach in the Birkenfeld arrondissement in the Saardepartement . At the Congress of Vienna it was added to the Duchy of Saxony-Coburg-Saalfeld and belonged to the Principality of Lichtenberg . In 1834 the Principality of Lichtenberg and with it Schmidthachenbach were transferred to the Kingdom of Prussia . The community subsequently belonged to the Prussian district of St. Wendel in the Trier administrative district of the Rhine province . It initially remained the administrative seat, but this soon passed to Sien . With the Greater Hamburg Law in 1937, the region was also restructured. The neighboring Oldenburg region of Birkenfeld was dissolved and Schmidthachenbach came to the newly formed district of Birkenfeld, to which it still belongs today.
Viticulture is documented in the place for the 16th to 19th centuries.
