geography

Sonnschied is located in the southern Hunsrück on the edge of the Hahnenbach Valley . From the place you have a wonderful view of the Lützelsoon .

The Birkenmühle residential area also belongs to Sonnschied .

history

The place was first mentioned in a document in 1336. It belonged to the Wild- and Rheingrafen .

In Sonnschied in autumn 1799 Johannes Bückler , the so-called Schinderhannes , cured his injured leg while escaping from the Simmern prison tower.
