Ellenberg is a municipality in the Birkenfeld district in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the Birkenfeld community .

geography

The place is a few hundred meters northwest of the district town of Birkenfeld in the Hunsrück . In the west is Buhlenberg and in the north Rinzenberg and Gollenberg .

history

Ellenberg was first mentioned in a document in 1367. Verifiable forms of name were "Elnberg" (1415) and "Ellemberg" (1438). The place was part of the rear county of Sponheim . From 1934 to 1952, Ellenberg and the neighboring Gollenberg were united in the municipality of Gollenberg-Ellenberg.
