Schwollen is a municipality in the Birkenfeld district in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the Birkenfeld community . The state-approved resort is known for its mineral springs .
geography
Schwollen is located on the Schwollbach (Nahe) on the edge of the Black Forest high forest . This part of the high forest is the southwestern part of the Hunsrück . The neighboring communities are Leisel , Hattgenstein and Wilzenberg-Hußweiler . 63 percent of the municipal area is forested. The mineral water obtained from the springs is bottled by two soda companies. Schwollen is a national park community in the Hunsrück-Hochwald National Park .
history
Swollen belonged country Wonderfully until the end of the 18th century to the Rear County of Sponheim and shelter as part of the care Hambach managing the Oberamt Birkenfeld . In 1607 Schwollen counted 31 families and in 1699 nine families, in 1790 the place had 199 inhabitants.
In 1794 the Left Bank of the Rhine was taken by French revolutionary troops. From 1798 to 1814 Schwollen belonged to the canton of Birkenfeld in the Saar department . As a result of the agreements made at the Congress of Vienna (1815), the region became part of the Oldenburg Principality of Birkenfeld in 1817 . The community was assigned to the mayor's office Leisel in the Birkenfeld office. From 1918 on, Schwollen belonged to the Oldenburg "Landesteil Birkenfeld" and in 1937 came to the Prussian district of Birkenfeld . Schwollen has been part of the state of Rhineland-Palatinate since 1946 .

Economy and Infrastructure
In the west is the B 269 and in Kronweiler , about 9 kilometers away, there is a train station on the Bingen – Saarbrücken railway .
There has been an outdoor swimming pool in Schwollen since 1937. There is also a kindergarten, a bakery, a restaurant and other businesses, including two mineral water fountains ( Hochwald Sprudel and Schwollener Sprudel ) and a fire protection company . The Sirona-Weg and the circular route "VG BIR" run directly through the village.
