Elchweiler is a municipality in the Birkenfeld district in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the Birkenfeld community .

Geography and history

Elchweiler is located on the Molkenbach in the Hunsrück . In the north is Niederhambach and in the south Schmißberg .

The “Old School” part of the community also belongs to Elchweiler. The living space is located south of the village on the community border with Schmißberg.

From 1934 to 1962 Elchweiler and neighboring were Schmißberg in the municipality Elchweiler-Schmißberg combined.
