geography

Weiden is on the edge of the Saar-Hunsrück Nature Park between Mörschied and Hottenbach on the German Gemstone Road . Half of the district area is forested. Weiden also includes the Weidener Mühle.

The community has the lowest population of all local communities in the Herrstein association. In the district of Birkenfeld only Schwerbach and Weitersbach have fewer inhabitants.

history

Until the end of the 18th century, Weiden belonged to the Wartenstein lordship , which was last owned by the Barons of Warsberg as an Electorate of Trier fief .

Municipal council

The municipal council in Weiden consists of six council members, who were elected by a majority vote in the local elections on May 26, 2019 , and the honorary local mayor as chairman.

Manfred Dalheimer became mayor of Weiden in 1984. Since there were no applicants in the direct election on May 26, 2019, the election of the mayor was incumbent on the council in accordance with the municipal regulations. He confirmed Dalheimer in his office on June 24, 2019, with which he entered his eighth term.

Attractions

Schinderhannes was arrested on July 10, 1798 in the Weidener Mühle . The (new) grain mill in Wiesental dates back to 1832.

Bundesstraße 41 runs in the southeast . In Idar-Oberstein / Weierbach, the Fischbach-Weierbach train station is on the Bingen – Saarbrücken railway line .
