Fohren-Linden is a municipality in the Birkenfeld district in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the Baumholder community .
geography
The municipality is located in the Unnertal in the west of Rhineland-Palatinate in the southern Hunsrück near the Saarland border.
The Finkenmühle residential area also belongs to Fohren-Linden .
history
The name is made up of a modification of the word " Föhre " (conifer) and the name of the linden tree that still characterizes the town today . But there is also the possibility that the first part of the place name derives from the word “Forrn”, an outdated term for “trout”: After all, historical documents show that the Unnerbach was once a very productive Fischbach.
What is certain, however, is the first written mention of the village, which chroniclers date to the year 960.
