coat of arms

Heimbach coat of arms
Blazon : "Upper part of the shield half: On a black ground a red-armored -tongued and -crowned growing (half) golden lion. - Lower part of the shield half: a three-part silver wave bar on a green background. Above a silver two-bar cross or drawbar cross "
Justification of the coat of arms: The lion and the Balkenkreuz point to the earlier territorial affiliation of parts of the district to Pfalz-Zweibrücken . The double cross reminds of the earlier rule of Lorraine . The three-part wave bar symbolizes the union of the waters of the Reichenbach and the Unnerbach to the Heimbach.

Culture and sights

In the Catholic Guardian Angel Church from 1925 there are frescoes, u. a. the stations of the cross by the artist Alfred Gottwald (1893–1971), which were exposed again in an extensive church renovation in 1994 by the restoration company Martin Mrziglod, Tholey. In the apse Jesus Christ is found on the heavenly throne, surrounded by hosts of angels. Heimbach citizens were the models for the paintings.

The Mariengrotte on Kapellenplatz above the church was built in the 1980s by the parish itself. The first place of worship, the “Heimbacher Chapel” from 1885, stood at this point. This chapel was demolished in 1969 because it was in disrepair. The grotto is carved into the rock and shows the representation of the Virgin Mary and the adoration of Bernadette Soubirous.

Economy and Infrastructure

In Heimbach there is a kindergarten and up to 1971 there was a Catholic elementary school and a Protestant school in which one could achieve the secondary school leaving certificate of the ninth grade. The Catholic elementary school was then converted into a pure elementary school and the Protestant school was completely eliminated. From the fifth grade onwards, the local children have to go to Baumholder or Birkenfeld, less often to Freisen.

The population has shrunk from just under 1800 inhabitants (peak in 1970) to currently 1071 (December 31, 2011). This is due, among other things, to the lack of infrastructure, as can also be seen in the city of Baumholder and other local communities. The trend is stagnating or even declining.

The federal motorway 62 runs to the south .

No passenger trains stopped at the Heimbach (Nahe) Ort train station between 1981 and 2014. Only the Heimbach (Nahe) railway station on the Mainz / Bingen – Saarbrücken line to the west outside the main town was available for passenger traffic . The reactivation of the Heimbach – Baumholder railway line was carried out in the course of the Rhineland-Palatinate cycle for the timetable change on December 14, 2014, so that the place is served again.

Personalities

  • Otto Witte (1872 or 1871–1958), five days "King of Albania", for some time roommate of the local community Heimbach (Nahe)
