Bundenbach is a municipality in the Birkenfeld district in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the Herrstein-Rhaunen community and is a state-approved resort . Bundenbach applies old because of its approximately 400 million years fossils of armored fish and other animals from the Devon as a fossil site of world renown.

Bundenbach is located on the Hunsrück Slate and Castle Road .
The next larger cities are Kirn , Idar-Oberstein and Simmern . Neighboring towns are Rhaunen , Bollenbach , Schneppenbach and Bruschied .
The Neumühle and Reinhardsmühle residential areas also belong to Bundenbach .
history
On a mountain spur near Bundenbach, in a loop of the Hahnbach, there was a late Celtic fortification , also called castellum , from the Treveri tribe . It is considered to be the most fully researched facility of its kind.
Bundenbach was first mentioned in a document on March 14, 1283.

Verena Mächtel became mayor of Bundenbach on September 19, 2019. In the re-election on August 25, 2019, she prevailed against her predecessor Michael Brzoska with a share of 66.73% of the vote. This election had become necessary because Brzoska was the only candidate in the direct election on May 26, 2019, who narrowly missed the necessary majority for re-election.

Culture and sights
The medieval castle ruins of Schmidtburg (one of the largest castles in the Hunsrück) and the Herrenberg slate mine are well worth seeing ; since 1976 visitor mine, the fossil museum, the La Tène period Celtic hilltop settlement Altburg and the wild and romantic Hahnenbach valley without road traffic.

There is a kindergarten and a village community center in Bundenbach. In Kirn there is a train station on the Bingen – Saarbrücken line . In the north are the federal highway 50 and the Frankfurt-Hahn airport .
