The Hunsrück Slate and Castle Road is located in the central area of ​​the Hunsrück between the Moselle and Nahe . It runs in the area of ​​the municipalities of Kirchberg , Rhaunen and Kirn-Land as well as the city of Kirn .

The holiday route , which has existed since 1991, comprises seven adventure routes , along which several castles and castle ruins, the Herrenberg Schiefergrube visitor mine and other sights are lined up. Particularly worth seeing are the reconstructed Celtic settlement Altburg near Bundenbach , the Schmidtburg near Schneppenbach , the Kyrburg and the town center of Kirn with buildings from five centuries. This also includes several magnificent buildings that were commissioned by the von Salm-Kyrburg royal family in the second half of the 18th century.

The holiday route is supported by a non-profit association whose office is located in the administration of the community of Kirn-Land .
