History and origin of name
In the Middle Ages, the village of Bruschied belonged to a larger manor of the Imperial Abbey of St. Maximin near Trier, which - in addition to Bruschied - included the settlements of Hausen near Rhaunen, Woppenroth , Blickersau (desert), Kaffeld (desert), Bundenbach and Schneppenbach and probably the "Hofe Hausen ”was subordinated.
Bruschied formed together with Schneppenbach a district and appeared for the first time in 1023 under the name "Prubesdervot" in the goods lists. In 1282 it is called “Probsterade”, 1426 “Proistrot”. Place name researchers interpret the name as "clearing that was laid out on Propsteigut".
In the Middle Ages, the district of the two villages was also the "judicial district", where the mayor and lay judges exercised lower jurisdiction within this "in-court". This in-court was part of the high court of Rhaunen , which was originally owned by the Wildgraves , and included blood jurisdiction .
After the final transfer of Schmidtburg to the Archbishop and Elector of Trier , Bruschied and Schneppenbach belonged to the Schmidtburg rule from the middle of the 14th century, which later formed the Schmidtburg office and existed until the end of the 18th century. The local rule over both villages lay equally between Kurtrier and the Lords of Wiltberg. In 1563 10 families lived in Bruschied. Of these, 6 families were subject to the elector's charge and 4 to the Wiltberg family.
Ecclesiastically, Bruschied and Schneppenbach belonged to the parish of Hausen , where the Reformation was introduced around 1555. Since the Elector of Trier Nikolaus Schenk von Schmidtburg converted to the new faith, the residents of Bruschied also had to accept the Protestant denomination. After several changes of confession in the Thirty Years' War, the villages of Bruschied, Schneppenbach and Bundenbach became Catholic again in the course of the Counter Reformation.
After the French territorial and administrative reform in 1798, Bruschied came to the newly created Mairie de Kirn , to which it belonged until the end of French rule in 1814. In the Prussian period that followed, the community initially remained in this community association, which from 1815 was called "Mayor Kirn ". After this regional authority temporarily belonged to the district of Simmern and the district of Oberstein , Bruschied was assigned to the mayor's office of Gemünden, which was part of the district of Simmern, and was later given the names "Amt" and "Verbandsgemeinde" instead of the previous name.
With the last territorial and administrative reform in Rhineland-Palatinate, the community of Gemünden was dissolved on November 8, 1970 and Bruschied, together with the communities of Kellenbach , Königsau , Schneppenbach and Schwarzerden, was incorporated into the community of Kirn-Land within the Bad Kreuznach district.
Among the art monuments and listed buildings, Bruschied's first mention is the Catholic Church of St. Franz Xaver. The church was built in 1892/1893 according to plans by the Freiburg cathedral master builder Max Meckel on the site of a smaller church from the 18th century as a neo-Gothic , single-nave plastered building with a 5/8 choir . A comprehensive restoration of the interior of the church took place in 1969/1970, the church contains, among other things, several sculptures from around 1700.
Other listed buildings in Bruschied are the Marienkapelle, founded in 1699 by a Bruschieder citizen, and a 17th-century house on Oberdorfstrasse.

Blazon : "Under a silver shield head, inside a red bar cross, in a blue field two crossed silver roofing hammers, clad by a silver roof plate." | |
Justification of the coat of arms: The shield head refers to the former affiliation to Kurtrier, roofer's hammers and roof slab refer to the slate pits in the municipality of Bruschied.
The municipal council commissioned the graphic artist Brust, Kirnsulzbach, to develop a draft for a municipal coat of arms. At its meeting on October 11, 1972, the Council approved the draft presented. After approval by the State Archives, the Ministry of the Interior in Mainz granted on November 27, 1972 permission to use one's own coat of arms. |
