Wallhausen is a municipality in the Bad Kreuznach district in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the Verbandsgemeinde Rüdesheim .
geography
Wallhausen is on the southern edge of the Hunsrück , already in the vicinity. The Graefenbach flows through the place. 36.9 percent of the district area is forested, 45.3 percent is used for agriculture (as of 2012).
The Wiesenmühle residential area also belongs to Wallhausen .
history
The oldest surviving mention of Wallhausen comes from 1195. The place belonged to the Dalberg lordship . This was initially held by the noble von Weyerbach family as a fiefdom of the Bishop of Speyer . The family died out in the 14th century and was inherited by the family of the Chamberlain von Worms , later von Dalberg . In 1390 or 1400 the Dalberg lordship was finally in the possession of the new masters.
A church was mentioned on February 21, 1219 in Wallhausen. The branches in Dalberg and Sommerloch belonged to the parish of Wallhausen . Eberhard I. Chamberlain von Worms was one of the few from the family of the Chamberlain von Worms who became Lutheran . Since his cousin, Wolfgang V, had entrusted him with the appointment of the pastor in Wallhausen, he presented the first Protestant pastor there on February 16, 1549 . From 1624, however, the place was again Roman Catholic . In the Thirty Years War there was also considerable damage in Wallhausen, especially in 1620 and 1621.
With the Reformation, the school system was also expanded. In 1560 a school building was built in the village and compulsory schooling was introduced after the Thirty Years' War . A school teacher in Wallhausen is also mentioned in a report about a church visit in 1790. His annual salary was 15 Malter Korn and 30 guilders .
In Wallhausen, Wallhausen Castle was built around 1560/1565 as the residence of a branch of the Dalberg family , which is now owned by the Princes of Salm-Salm after the male line died out in 1940 . For Wallhausen these are members of the Rhenish Knighthood .
In the 17th century Wallhausen was affected by the war several times. In the course of the Dutch War , in which the Electoral Palatinate and France were also involved, Wallhausen was burned down by the French military in 1676.
Today's St. Laurentius parish church, was built in 1792.
The station was from Wallhausen 1895-1936 endpoint of the narrow-gauge railway line Bad Kreuznach Wallhausen . Omnibuses and a truck replaced their traffic.

Culture and sights
The Catholic Church of St. Laurentius dates from 1794.
Wallhausen Castle is the seat of the Prinz Salm winery , the oldest German winery that has been continuously owned by the family.
Viticulture
Wallhausen is significantly influenced by viticulture and, with 226 hectares of vineyards (as of 2007), it is the third largest wine-growing community in the Nahe, after Bad Kreuznach and Guldental .
