Merxheim is a municipality in the Bad Kreuznach district in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the community of Nahe-Glan .
geography
Merxheim is on the south bank of the Nahe . On the other side of the river is Weiler near Monzingen , Meddersheim to the east, Kirschroth to the south and Martinstein to the west .
The Gänsmühle, Kornsmühle (formerly Eltges- or Iltismühle), Estrella (formerly Kauzenmühle) and Weinelsmühle (formerly Franzenmühle) residential areas also belong to Merxheim .
history
The place was first mentioned in 1061 as Merkedesheim in pago Nahgouue . At that time Archbishop Eberhard von Trier donated goods to Merxheim and Monzingen to the St. Simeon monastery . Since Archbishop Ruthard of Mainz (1107) the Disibodenberg monastery also owned an estate in Merchidisheim . Another estate was owned by Abbot Werner von St. Alban near Mainz in 1145 .
In the early modern times, Merxheim was divided between the bailiffs of Hunolstein - Steinkallenfels and the lords of Braunsberg - Burgbrohl . The Braunsberg share went to the barons of Bourscheid-Burgbrohl-Büllesheim in 1625 . From 1816 to 1866 the place belonged to the Oberamt Meisenheim of the Landgraviate of Hessen-Homburg and came with this to Prussia in 1866 .

The old town hall from the 15th century and the view over the Nahe valley from the viewing platform are worth seeing.
