Location of the local community Monzingen in the Bad Kreuznach district | ||
Monzingen is a municipality in the Bad Kreuznach district in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the community of Nahe-Glan . Monzingen is a 1200 year old wine-growing community on the Middle Nahe .
geography
Monzingen is located in a side valley of the Middle Nahe, through which the Gaulsbach flows. In the north, east and west the place is framed by 250-300 m high mountains, to the south the valley opens up towards the Nahe.
The center is the 200 m high Kirchberg with the St. Martin's Church from the 13th century. The houses extend on a mountain slope gently sloping from west to east. Most of the most recent new buildings are located on an eastern mountain in the direction of Nussbaum and tower above the old town center with its historic buildings. To the south, in the Nahe valley, on the other side of the federal highway 41 and the Bingen – Saarbrücken railway line, lies the industrial park, sports facilities and one of the largest campsites in the Nahe valley.
The surrounding mountain slopes are covered by mixed forest or are mostly used for viticulture on the southern slopes. Some of the long-abandoned vineyards on the mountain slopes are covered by a bush forest. Especially on the steep southern slopes of the well-known Monzinger vineyards Frühlingsplätze and Halenberg , intensive viticulture is still practiced. They are part of the specific growing area Nahe .
The Nahemühle residential area also belongs to Monzingen .
history
The first documentary mention of Monzingen goes back to a donation of vineyards to the Lorsch monastery in 778. During the time of the tribal duchies, the place belonged to the Duchy of Franconia .
