The municipality near-Glan was 1 January 2020 from the merger of the Rhineland-Palatinate Verbandsgemeinden Bad Sobernheim and Meisenheim in the district of Bad Kreuznach . In addition to the cities of Bad Sobernheim an der Nahe and Meisenheim am Glan , the association also includes 32 other local communities .

Association municipal council

Due to the upcoming merger of the two municipalities on January 1, 2020, the new municipal council was not elected in the general local elections on May 26, 2019 , but only on November 24, 2019 in a personalized proportional representation. The term of office began with the formation of the new Verbandsgemeinde on January 1, 2020.

mayor

Uwe Engelmann (SPD) became the first mayor of the new community on January 1, 2020. In the runoff election on December 8, 2019, he prevailed against Ron Budschat (CDU) with 56.5% of the vote, after none of the original three applicants had achieved a sufficient majority in the direct election on November 24, 2019.
