Raumbach is a municipality in the Bad Kreuznach district in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the community of Nahe-Glan .

geography

The street village is located on the western side of the lower Glantal in the North Palatinate Bergland . To the southeast is Meisenheim , in the southwest Desloch and north is Abtweiler .

history

Raumbach was first mentioned in a document from Count Heinrich I von Veldenz from 1293. The village belonged to the Meisenheim property of the County of Veldenz, which was essentially a fief of the Archdiocese of Mainz . Meisenheim came to Pfalz-Zweibrücken in 1444 by inheritance . In 1798 Raumbach was added to the newly formed Saar department together with the city of Meisenheim . The Glan formed the border with the Donnersberg department . From 1816 to 1866, Raumbach belonged to the Meisenheim Oberamt of the Landgraviate of Hesse-Homburg and with this came to Prussia in 1866 .

Culture and sights

There is a nature trail in Raumbach. The place was connected to the railway network in 1896 with the opening of the Lauterecken - Odernheim line, which was built as a direct continuation of the Lautertal Railway. In 1904, this section merged with the Glantalbahn , which was fully opened that year , but has since been closed. Tourists can take trolley trips on it .
