Schweppenhausen is a municipality in the Bad Kreuznach district in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the Langenlonsheim-Stromberg community .
Geographical location
Nestled between forest, field and vineyards on the Guldenbach , Schweppenhausen is "the gateway to the Hunsrück ". Schweppenhausen is approx. 10 km from Bingen am Rhein and approx. 13 km from Bad Kreuznach .
history
Sweppenhuzun is mentioned for the first time in a document from Emperor Heinrich V in 1125 as the property of the St. Maximin Abbey of Trier. Since the 14th century it was owned by the von Ingelheim family as a fief of the wild counts and count palatine . Local mayor is Carsten Schmitt. In the runoff election on June 16, 2019, he prevailed against the previous incumbent Günter Landwermann with a share of 52.16% of the vote.
Economy and Infrastructure
Until the completion of the Hunsrückquerbahn in 1889, agriculture and viticulture determined the livelihood of most of the citizens. After that, the wood processing industry and other branches of business gained in importance. A kindergarten and a primary school are located in town. The good village community is shaped by a diverse club life.
Viticulture
Schweppenhausen belongs to the "Nahetal wine-growing area" in the Nahe growing area . Seven wine-growing businesses are active in the village, the area under vines is 46 hectares. About 72% of the wine grown are white grape varieties (as of 2007). In 1979, 22 companies were still active, the area under vines has not changed significantly since then.
traffic
The A 61 , about 1.5 km away, connects Schweppenhausen to the motorway network around the Rhine-Main area . The Schweppenhausen stop was on the Hunsrückquerbahn Langenlonsheim - Hermeskeil .
