history
Since the 12th century at the latest, Bockenau has belonged to the County of Sponheim and thus to its oldest possessions. These historical references can be explored on a themed hiking trail, the Sponheimer Weg . However, the origins of the settlement go back much further. During the development of the new building area in the Bein , foundations of a Roman villa from the third century AD were found - this was proven by coins.
In the Middle Ages , on the grounds of the Bockenauer Schweiz campsite and the Daubacher Brücke settlement (between Winterburg and Bockenau), there was Nunkirchen , a homestead with a church that was owned by Jutta von Sponheim .
