About this picture

Bockenau is a municipality in the Bad Kreuznach district in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the Verbandsgemeinde Rüdesheim .

geography

Bockenau is located on the southern edge of the Hunsrück in the Ellerbach valley on the 380 meter high Wingertsberg and is surrounded by the Soonwald preliminary stage, the highest point of which is the Ellerspring at 657  m above sea level. NHN is where the Ellerbach rises and the Bockenau flows through. The place is geographically in the scenic and largely untouched Gauchswald . The landscape designation Bockenauer Schweiz exists for the entire ensemble , which is also reflected in the name of the village's sports and event center.

The residential areas Bockenauer Schweiz and Lindenhof belong to Bockenau.

Neighboring communities are Allenfeld , Sponheim , Burgsponheim , Waldböckelheim , Daubach , Rehbach and Winterburg .

history

Since the 12th century at the latest, Bockenau has belonged to the County of Sponheim and thus to its oldest possessions. These historical references can be explored on a themed hiking trail, the Sponheimer Weg . However, the origins of the settlement go back much further. During the development of the new building area in the Bein , foundations of a Roman villa from the third century AD were found - this was proven by coins.

In the Middle Ages , on the grounds of the Bockenauer Schweiz campsite and the Daubacher Brücke settlement (between Winterburg and Bockenau), there was Nunkirchen , a homestead with a church that was owned by Jutta von Sponheim .
