Meckenbach is a municipality in the Bad Kreuznach district in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the Kirner Land association.
geography
Meckenbach is located in the northern foothills of the North Palatinate Mountains in a side valley of the Nahe . Kirn is to the west and Hochstetten-Dhaun to the north .
history
Little is known about the prehistory and early history of the village. However, the occurrence and extraction of copper ores seem to indicate that the area was settled in Celtic times.
In Meckenbach, the Archbishop of Mainz and Arch Chancellor of the Willigis Empire had a church built around 1000 that was subordinate to the Disibodenberg Monastery . The foundation structure has largely been preserved. It is a simple stone building in Romanesque style with an east tower. The nave was extended around 1750. The church is equipped with an organ made by the Stumm brothers from Rhaunensulzbach in 1836, which was restored in 1981.
In the Middle Ages, the village always belonged to the Kyrburg Wildgrave and was reformed around 1550. The farmers from Meckenbach also had to pay the so-called “Zollhafer” to the gentlemen from Steinkallenfels when they coat the Kirner market with their products. Until the end of the 18th century, Meckenbach was a Schultheisserei , a place in the Oberamt Kyrburg, where a lordly civil servant as a mayor took care of the administration of the community in the name of the Counts of Wild and Rhine of Kyrburg.
After the occupation of the Left Bank of the Rhine in the First Coalition War (1794), the administration of the region was reorganized according to the French model. From 1798 to 1814 Meckenbach belonged to the canton of Meisenheim in the Saardepartement and from 1800 to the newly formed Mairie Merxheim , which included the communities of Bärweiler , Überhochstetten ( Hochstetten ), Meckenbach and Merxheim.
This community association remained in existence even after the end of French rule and from 1816 formed the Merxheim Oberschultheißerei in the Hesse-Homburg Oberamt Meisenheim . After the transfer of the Oberamt Meisenheim to Prussia in September 1866, Meckenbach was assigned to the mayor's office in Meddersheim . The community of Meckenbach remained there until 1940, when it was assigned to the Kirn-Land office together with Hochstetten .

Blazon : "In a split shield in front in black next to six silver stars a silver wolf iron, behind in gold a blue armored and tongued red lion." | |
Justification of the coat of arms: Stars and Wolfseisen go back to a court seal from 1698, the lion refers to the former affiliation to the Wild and Rhine County .
On October 20, 1963, the municipal council commissioned the graphic designer Brust, Kirn-Sulzbach, to develop a design for a municipal coat of arms. At its meeting on July 17, 1964, the Council approved the draft presented. After approval by the State Archives, the Ministry of the Interior in Mainz granted on May 14, 1965 permission to use one's own coat of arms. |
