The B 421 runs through the village

Königsau is a municipality in the Bad Kreuznach district in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the Kirner Land association.

geography

Königsau is located in a valley in the southern Hunsrück on the edge of Soonwald and Lützelsoon , the Kellenbach flows through the place. To the north is Henau , east Schwarzerden and south is Kellenbach .

history

The village of Königsau in the Kellenbachtal is first mentioned in a document in 1325 as "Kunigesauwe". Later modern spelling of the place name was "Königß Auen" (1601) and "Kinzau" (1766), the latter form of the name in the dialect name of the place "Kinze" still in existence today.

The medieval place name goes back to the Old High German “cuning” (king) and allows the conclusion that the area around Königsau / Kellenbach was once a royal or imperial estate . The role of the Lords of Stein ( Steinkallenfels ), who exercised jurisdiction as Reichsministeriale in the High Court of Kellenbach, should also fit this interpretation .

In 1325 the Archbishop of Trier and Elector Baldwin of Luxembourg acquired shares in goods and rights from the knight Friedrich von Steinkallenfels , which the Steinkallenfelser owned in Königsau and Schwarzerden and had separated from the property of Count Johann von Sponheim .

In 1334 the archbishop u. a. also a mill square in Königsau, which under his successor Boemund II of Trier was given as a fief to the Steinkallenfels knight Tilmann vom Stein, the builder of Wartenstein Castle .

The Trier possessions and rights in Königsau were subsequently passed on to various families of the lower nobility by the electors as an after-fief . B. von Elz, von Rüdesheim, von der Leyen and the governors of Hunolstein .

For the 17th and 18th centuries, the sovereign rights for Königsau have not been clarified. Although Trier land law prevailed in Königsau, the sovereignty was disputed, which on the one hand claimed Kurtrier for itself while on the other hand Baron von Warsberg wanted to see the village as an allodial and imperial knighthood property.

Königsau was also part of the Kellenbach court , which was subordinate to the Kirchberg office . In 1708 the office of Kirchberg passed to the Margrave of Baden due to the division of the Front County of Sponheim .

The confusion and juxtaposition of rights and responsibilities of different masters during the time of the old empire ceased when the French occupied the left bank of the Rhine from 1792/94 and from 1798 placed the area under a central administration.

Königsau and Kellenbach belonged to Mairie Kirn in the Simmern arrondissement from around 1800 .

coat of arms

Koenigsau coat of arms
Blazon : "In a divided shield above in black a gold-armored and tongued and -crowned silver lion, below in silver a raised green three-mountain topped with a golden crown."
Justification of the coat of arms: The upper part of the shield is part of the coat of arms of the Barons von Warsberg, who became the owners of Königsau in 1585 through succession. The lower half of the shield symbolizes the hilly landscape with the green Dreiberg (also green meadow). The crown as a royal crown refers to the name Königsau.

On October 19, 1978, the local council commissioned the graphic designer Brust, Kirnsulzbach, to develop a design for a municipal coat of arms. At its meeting on May 11, 1979, the Council adopted the draft presented. After approval by the State Main Archives, the Ministry of the Interior in Mainz granted on August 15, 1979 the approval to use one's own coat of arms.
