history
After 1375
The oldest written mention of the place Spall can be found in 1375 with Spalde in a Sponheimer goods book . The name is derived from incision, slot, column and is based on its geographical location.
Around 1500 Spall belonged to the Hinteren Grafschaft Sponheim , which was divided between the Duchy of Pfalz-Zweibrücken and the Margraviate of Baden after the Sponheimers died out . In 1556, Elector Otto Heinrich ordered to preach Protestant doctrine. The Reformation was carried out in 1557 in Gebroth, Spall, Argenschwang, Spabrücken and Dalberg.
During a church visit to all offices of the Hinteren Grafschaft Sponheim in 1607, the bailiff from Winterburg wrote:
“The Spald local community goes to Spachbrücken, so dalbergisch in the church. Because it is now due to the fact that today's Dalberger will reintroduce the papacy to which he belongs, it should be considered how the parish of Spald can be helped in this case. "
But Spall and Argenschwang should better go to the local parish of Gebroth, after the order had already been issued during a church visit in 1575 that the Spallers should go to Gebroth to preach,
"... because their children could not pray because of the carelessness of the Lutheran pastor from Spachbrück."
In Spabrücken, despite all the difficulties that were made by the Electoral Palatinate , the Catholic worship service was reintroduced by Johann von Dalberg on September 1, 1624. From then on, the Spallers were only allowed to go to the evangelical service in Gebroth.
In 1594 the first council and bakery was built in Spall . The building's bell was picked up for armament purposes during World War II and replaced with a new one on December 31, 1949. In 1984 the building had to give way to the new traffic routing, and in 1989 a wooden bell tower was inaugurated at this point in which the old bell now rings every day. A memorial stone with a plaque reminds of old Backes.
After 1860
The first school was built in Spall in 1860, but since no teacher was found, the first lessons did not take place until October 12, 1865. Until 1912 there was the Zum Soonwald restaurant in Spall , which also served as a post office. From 1912 the post office was relocated to Haus Erbach.
In 1902, on Reformation Day, the water fair was celebrated in Spall after the first water pipe was completed. Before that, the citizens supplied themselves with water from wells. In 1915 electricity reached the municipality of Spall, and electric lights were on for the first time.
On August 15, 1926, the memorial that was erected at the entrance to the village for those who fell in the First World War from Spall was inaugurated. The praying warrior was made by the Bad Kreuznach sculptor Bauer. On January 28, 1945 a bomb hit the entrance to the village in the direction of Argenschwang.
The new school was completed in 1960 and closed again six years later. The children from Spall go to school in Wallhausen to this day. Today in the basement of the former school is the community hall, the mayor’s office and, since 1967, the Spaller Hof restaurant in the former school hall.
