Location of the local community Horbach in the Bad Kreuznach district
Horbach is a municipality in the Bad Kreuznach district in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the Kirner Land association.
geography
The village is located in the southern Hunsrück at an altitude of 340 meters on the western Soonvorstufe above the Kellenbach and the local community of Simmertal .
history
Horbach is the second smallest municipality in the Bad Kreuznach district . It is located - away from any through traffic - across from Schloss Dhaun on the other side of the Kellenbachtal and, like only a few communities in the Kirner Land association, has retained its agrarian appearance of earlier times. The place name is handed down in 1541 as "Horbruch", which means something like "swampy terrain". Originally, Horbach, Brauweiler , Martinstein and Simmern under Dhaun formed a brand cooperative. The whole built and undeveloped land and the forest area formed a unit. Ecclesiastically and administratively, Simmern unter Dhaun was the main town in this greater area, while the neighboring communities were extension or subsidiary settlements of the mother town. It can also be assumed that when the neighboring villages were founded, the settlers came from a place of the original mark, because otherwise the right to the common land, to the common ownership of pastures, water and forest, cannot be explained. It was not until 1513 that the district of Horbach was separated from the large district of Simmern under Dhaun by the setting of 18 boundary stones. Several lords had a share in the local rule of Horbach in the Middle Ages, including the Counts of Sponheim and the Wildgrafen. In 1340, Kurmainzer rights for Horbach are documented, which were granted to the Knights of Löwenstein in 1393. In the following period Horbach became part of the imperial knighthood of Martinstein and counted u. a. the Freiherr von Ebersberg, called von Weyers-Leyen, to his local lords. In 1747 the Protestant church was built, in which the pastor of Simmern under Dhaun performed the services.
In the 18th century the local rule passed to the Margrave of Baden , who had the rule of Martinstein administered by a bailiff based on the Naumburg. There was a mayor each in Horbach and Martinstein .
In the course of the French territorial and administrative reforms, Horbach came to Mairie Monzingen around 1800 . The village remained in the later mayor's office or the office of Monzingen until it was incorporated into the community of Kirn-Land in 1970. In 2020 the place became part of the community of Kirner Land.

coat of arms
Blazon : “Shield split by a curled, lowered, blue point with a silver pole inside. In front a blue-armored and tongued red lion in gold, behind five silver (2: 1: 2) balls in black. "
Justification for the coat of arms: The front part of the shield refers to the former affiliation to the Wild and Rhine Counties. The rear part of the shield refers to the coat of arms of the Lords of Sickingen .
The lower curved tip refers to the von der Leyen coat of arms. The coat of arms is based on an old boundary stone that is still in the Horbach district today. |
On April 6, 1976, the municipal council commissioned the graphic designer Brust, Kirnsulzbach, to develop a design for a municipal coat of arms. At the meeting on August 13, 1978, the council approved the draft coat of arms in its current version. After approval by the State Archives, the Ministry of the Interior in Mainz granted on February 7, 1979 the approval to use your own coat of arms.
