Jeckenbach is a municipality in the Bad Kreuznach district in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the community of Nahe-Glan .

geography

location

The street village is located in the northern Palatinate mountains on the Glan tributary Jeckenbach . To the north is Desloch , east Breitenheim , south Löllbach and west is Schweinschied .

geology

Jeckenbach is an important site of fossils from the Rotliegend period ( Permian ) about 290 million years ago. There, the amateur palaeontologist Arnulf Stapf from Nierstein am Rhein discovered the oldest mayflies ( Misthodotes stapfi ) in Central Europe. Fish and amphibians (dinosaurs) were also found. Finds from Jeckenbach are kept in the Nierstein Paleontological Museum .

history

From 1816 to 1866 Jeckenbach belonged to the Oberamt Meisenheim of the Landgraviate of Hessen-Homburg and with this came to Prussia in 1866 .
