Spabrücken is a municipality in the north of the Bad Kreuznach district in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the Verbandsgemeinde Rüdesheim . Spabrücken is a state-approved resort and is known for its pilgrimage church of the Assumption and the adjoining monastery.
geography
Spabrücken is located southeast of the Soonwald main ridge, a mountain range in the Hunsrück ; this is part of the Rhenish Slate Mountains . South of the village is the Gauchswald , another part of the aforementioned mountain range. 63.3 percent of the district area is forested.
The hamlets and residential areas Aschbornerhof, Forsthaus Reichenbacherhof, Gräfenbacherhütte, Oberhub, Pfeffermühle, Rothmühle, Treinelshäuschen and Unterhub also belong to Spabrücken .
history
The oldest surviving mention of Spabrücken comes from 1170 as Spachbrukken . It belonged to the Dalberg lordship . There was a pilgrimage to the local church for a miraculous image of the Madonna . The pilgrimage was to be revived in the course of the Counter Reformation . The local lords of Dalberg also founded a branch of the Franciscan Order here in 1681 , which also took care of the church supply to the surrounding communities. The monastery was closed again in 1802 in the course of secularization .

Culture and sights
The pilgrimage church of the Assumption of Mary , part of a Franciscan monastery , dates back to 1359. There is a silent organ from 1735 in it.
