Location of the local community Mandel in the Bad Kreuznach district | ||
Mandel is a municipality in the Bad Kreuznach district in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the Verbandsgemeinde Rüdesheim .
geography
Almond is located in the Naheland , south of the Hunsrück , about five kilometers from Bad Kreuznach . Neighboring communities are Weinsheim , Sponheim , Sankt Katharinen (near Bad Kreuznach) , Roxheim and Rüdesheim .
history
The place was first mentioned in a document in 962 as Mannendal . At the time, Mandel was an imperial fief of the St. Maximin Abbey near Trier . The bailiwick held the Wild and Rhine Counts. Property in Mandel was part of the basic equipment of the Sponheim Monastery , founded in 1101 by Count Stefan II of Sponheim . In 1439 the local rule over Mandel was in the hands of the von Dalberg family , the treasurers of Worms .
They transferred the village as a fiefdom to the von Koppenstein family , a branch of the Sponheimers who named themselves after their ancestral castle Koppenstein in the Hunsrück . Members of this family stood for a long time as knights, clergymen or officials in the service of various territorial lords, including the Counts of Sponheim. The newly built castle in Mandel was the administrative seat and partly also the residence.
When the Koppenstein family died out in 1768, the village of Mandel fell back to the feudal lords , the barons of Dalberg, and in 1786 was sold with all rights to Count Karl August von Bretzenheim .
After 1792 French revolutionary troops occupied the region and annexed it after the Peace of Campo Formio (1797) . From 1798 to 1814, Mandel belonged to the French Rhine-Moselle department and was assigned to the canton of Kreuznach and the arrondissement of Simmern . Almond became the chief town ( chef-lieu ) of a Mairie around 1800 .
Due to the agreements made at the Congress of Vienna (1815), the region came under the Kingdom of Prussia . From 1816 the town was the almond circle Kreuznach in Koblenz assigned.

Reason: The coat of arms is borrowed from the von Koppenstein family .
Main municipality
Since 2019, Mandel has been one of the 28 focus communities in the state of Rhineland-Palatinate for eight years. In this way, the community is subsidized for projects and can now start a village moderation in order to further develop the village and make it "fit" for the future.
Village moderation
On March 1, 2020, the community and the village planner Nathalie Franzen invited to the village conference in the Schlossberghalle. There they discussed what the place could look like in 2035. In further meetings, a village inspection and working groups, it is decided what Mandel needs in order to develop further. Kitchen table discussions are also offered.
Village square
Workshops have been taking place on the new village square since 2017 . The tenement at Römerstrasse 30 was demolished for this purpose. The new village square has been under construction since Easter 2020. This should become a meeting point for all generations and be used for events such as the fair .
