Biebelsheim is a municipality in the Bad Kreuznach district in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the Bad Kreuznach community .

history

The place belonged to the County of Falkenstein as an exclave early on . At first these ruled the Lords of Bolanden , who were inherited in 1418 by the Counts of Virneburg . The County of Falkenstein and with it the village of Biebelsheim passed to the Duke of Lorraine in 1667 through various owners . Through the marriage of the Lorraine Duke Franz Stephan with Maria Theresa von Habsburg , Biebelsheim came to Austria and was subordinate to the Oberamt Winnweiler of the empire front Austria .

Biebelsheim and its surrounding area were mostly French occupied from December 1792 and was ceded to France at the time of the Campo Formio peace agreement (1797) due to its previous Austrian affiliation, where it remained until 1814. During this time it belonged to the French Département du Mont-Tonnerre with the seat of government in Mainz and formed a joint mayor's office with Ippesheim , which existed until 1901.

From 1814 to 1816 there was a joint Austrian-Bavarian administration in Kreuznach (later in Worms ), in 1816 the community fell to the Grand Duchy of Hesse , and since 1946 it has belonged to the then newly formed state of Rhineland-Palatinate .
