Location of the community of Eckenroth in the Bad Kreuznach district | ||
Eckenroth is a municipality in the Bad Kreuznach district in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the Langenlonsheim-Stromberg community .
geography
Eckenroth lies below the Schindeldorf on the opposite side of the valley of the Steyerberg. Neighboring communities are Schweppenhausen and Schöneberg .
history
When the smallest village in today's community was founded cannot be precisely determined. The assumption goes back to the year 900, when it is said to have been rebuilt on the remains of Roman facilities. In 1156 the place was one of the forest villages owned by the Palatine , and in 1190 it was stated in Bolanden's fiefdom register that "Ogelrode" was a branch of the Leibersheim parish ( Waldlaubersheim ) and had to pay tithes there, which in turn belonged to Count Werner von Bolanden as Fief of Count Lon. Werner von Bolanden transferred half of this patronage right and part of the tithe from the fields and vineyards to the knight Emilrich von Schonenburg as a fief. Later the place, which was part of the Electoral Palatinate until the French Revolution , repeatedly changed its spelling. We read the spelling “Ockenrait” and “Oeckenrod” in the Stromberg interest register .

politics
Municipal council
The council in Eckenroth consists of six council members, who in the local elections on May 26, 2019 in a majority vote were elected, and the honorary mayor as chairman.
mayor
The local mayor is Christoph Braun (non-party). Since there was no candidate in the local elections on May 26, 2019, he was unanimously elected by the local council in August 2019, succeeding Frank Seckler, who had not run after 24 years in office.
coat of arms
The coat of arms shows a golden double hook and a golden hook on a black background , which are crossed at an angle. The double hook, also known as the wolf tang , is an ancient mark . In heraldry, it also means the symbol for forestry. The hoe could be referred to as a rod hoe and thus represent an allusion to the place name, but also explain the connection to viticulture. The Electoral Palatinate colors black and gold indicate that today's local community was part of the Electoral Palatinate for a long time. Since both forestry and viticulture were carried out in Eckenroth, the local council decided in favor of the double hook and the rod hoe in the shield.
