Meckenbach is a municipality in the Birkenfeld district in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the Birkenfeld community .

The place is located on the Meckenbach of the same name in the Black Forest high forest in the Hunsrück on the border with Saarland . 61 percent of the municipal area is forested.

history

Meckenbach was first mentioned in a document in 1334. From 1480 it belonged to the Duchy of Pfalz-Zweibrücken .

The place was assigned to the care or the mayor's office Achtelsbach in the Zweibrückischen Amt Nohfelden . In 1790 19 families lived in the village.

In 1794 the Left Bank of the Rhine was taken by French revolutionary troops. From 1798 to 1814 Meckenbach belonged to the canton of Birkenfeld in the Saardepartement . As a result of the agreements made at the Congress of Vienna (1815), the region became part of the Oldenburg Principality of Birkenfeld in 1817 . The community was assigned to the mayor's office in Achtelsbach in the Nohfelden district . From 1918 on Meckenbach belonged to the Oldenburg "Landesteil Birkenfeld" and in 1937 it came to the Prussian district of Birkenfeld . Meckenbach has been part of the state of Rhineland-Palatinate since 1946 .
