Kempfeld is a municipality in the Birkenfeld district in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the Herrstein-Rhaunen community . Kempfeld is a state-approved resort in the Hunsrück-Hochwald National Park .

geography

Kempfeld is located on the German Gemstone Road in the southern Hunsrück between the Idarwald in the north and the city of Idar-Oberstein in the south.

The hamlet Katzenloch and the residential areas Auf dem Steinberg, Engelsmühlen, Herrenflur and Wildenburg also belong to Kempfeld .

Kempfeld is a national park community in the Hunsrück-Hochwald National Park .

Municipal council

The municipal council in Kempfeld consists of twelve council members, who were elected in a personalized proportional representation in the local elections on May 26, 2019 , and the honorary local mayor as chairman. The twelve seats in the municipal council are divided between three groups of voters .

mayor

Horst Albohr became the local mayor of Kempfeld in 2014. In the direct election on May 26, 2019, he was confirmed in office for another five years with a share of 85.11% of the votes.

Albohr's predecessor Wolfgang Wannemacher held the office from 1999 to 2014.

Culture and sights

The village includes the Wildenburg and a game enclosure on the Wildenburger Kopf , the Evangelical Church and also the only German gem garden in Schulstrasse.

Public facilities

There is a kindergarten in Kempfeld and a primary school on the outskirts of Wildenburg . Furthermore, there is a solar park on the outskirts towards Herrstein .

tourism

Kempfeld is the end point of a stage of the Saar-Hunsrück-Steig long-distance hiking trail . The place is in the Hunsrück-Hochwald National Park . At the Wildenburg there is a national park gate which, with the wildlife park with wild cats and wolves located there, provides entry to the national park.

In Cologne in the Sülz district and in Herborn (near Idar-Oberstein) there is one Kempfelder Strasse .

Personalities

• Carlos Trein Filho (1847-?), German-Brazilian architect and politician, was born in Kempfeld.
• Hans König (1916–1999), politician (SPD), was Mayor of the Kempfeld Office from 1948 to 1957.
• Helmut Träbert (1920–1974), doctor and scientist, lived and practiced in Kempfeld.
