The Evangelical Church Kempfeld is the Evangelical Church in Kempfeld of the Evangelical Church Community Schauren-Kempfeld-Bruchweiler in the Hunsrück .

history

Pulpit and altar

At the beginning of the 13th century, the place Kempfeld was a fief of the Trier Imperial Abbey of St. Maximin to the Dauner Wildgrafen . The branch chapel was first mentioned in 1529. At that time it was a branch of the parish Veitsrodt , later it belonged to the parish Sensweiler , since 1756 it was an independent parish, from 1817 to 1819 it was connected to Hottenbach . In the 18th century, a church comparable to the church in Schauren was built. During the French period from 1804 to 1811 the equally brilliant and eccentric Friedrich Christian Laukhard was pastor in Veitsrodt and Kempfeld. The following entry in the Hottenbacher church book comes from this time: On March 8th, 1811, a man from Wirschweiler married his bride from Kempfeld in Kempfeld, because Pastor Schneegans von Wirschweiler-Allenbach has not yet ordained and Kempfeld has renounced Pastor Laukhard in a formal accord.

On August 25, 1911, during the great fire in the village, the church burned down along with most of the village.

Architecture and equipment

Angel

The church was erected in an exposed location at a central intersection at the fork in the main street / Herrsteinerstraße in 1912 in place of the previous building that had burned down according to plans by August Senz in Art Nouveau style. The building is a transversely directed hall with a high west tower in front of the center of the eaves side, which accommodates the funnel-shaped entrance with inserted columns. Inside, the ceiling is designed as a wooden barrel with visible hanging pillars and tension bolts. The three-wing gallery gives a clear view of the pulpit altar on the long side, which is illuminated through the large lunette windows on the hipped gables. The original color of the wooden parts has been preserved. Because of its formal language and furnishings, the church is a remarkable example of Protestant church building in the early 20th century and its execution is comparable to the Protestant church buildings in Hottenbach, Berglangenbach and Oberreidenbach .

The furnishings are largely from the time it was built.

Bells

The two bells of the baroque church melted during the church fire. Of the three bells of the new church, one was cast by Hausen-Saarburg in 1912, the other two were taken over from Oberkassel, cast in 1865 by the Cologne foundry MerlJ and had to be delivered as a material donation during the First World War. The bells, newly cast after the war in 1920, were inaugurated on December 5, 1920. All bells were transported away to be melted down during the Second World War and, unlike many bells in the area, never returned. Today cast steel bells from 1950 hang in the tower .

use

Today the church is administered by the Protestant parish of Schauren-Kempfeld-Bruchweiler, which has existed in this form since 1974. and has been connected to the parish of the Protestant parish Wirschweiler-Allenbach-Sensweiler since 2011. A total of six churches and nine preaching posts are to be served in the two parishes. In Kempfeld (as of 2015) a service is celebrated on around three Sundays a month and on the church holidays.
